MARIA PAPATHANASIOU

She studied History at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (graduation with Excellency), at the University of London (LSE, Master with “Distinction”), and Vienna (University of Vienna / Institute of Social and Economic History, PhD with “Dinstiction”).

Her scholarly interests, research, and teaching, focus on the history of central, western, northern Europe during the late 18th, 19th and first decades of the 20th century, in transnational contexts. More specifically they focus on the history of childhood, youth, family, gender, work, rural societies, urban working classes, artisans, immigration, material culture, historical anthropology, as well as the history of european colonialism.

Among other she has authored four books (three research monographs and a textbook).

Reviews on her work have been published in international journals, such as the Journal of Modern History or the Austrian History Yearbook, as well as in the History-Net.
